Tokyo — Wonsuh Song
Dr. Carol Finn, former President of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and Co-Program Chair for the upcoming JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026, is currently visiting Japan to discuss preparations for the joint conference and strengthen cooperation between the two scientific unions.
During her visit, Dr. Finn attended the reception of the Japan Geomorphological Union (JGU) annual meeting, which was held from November 1 to 3 at Tokyo University of Science. The purpose of this visit is to reinforce the cooperative framework for next year’s JpGU-AGU joint meeting and to further strengthen collaboration within the global geoscience community.
Dr. Finn, who has had a distinguished career at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), previously worked at the Geological Research Institute in Tsukuba in the early 1990s. With her longstanding ties to Japan, her current visit reaffirms the enduring trust and partnership between the American and Japanese geoscience communities.
The Japan Geomorphological Union (JGU), established on October 6, 1979, promotes the advancement of geomorphology through academic conferences and publications. It was incorporated as a general association on April 1, 2019, and is currently led by Professor Hiroshi Shimazu of Rissho University.
